REVIEW // Club Lotus: Lifeline EP
My nighttime ritual involves placing my phone beneath my pillow and playing an album from top to bottom as I doze out; it tweaks my dreams. Then, I know that I’ll daze off to a fine rhythm and awake from a restful night. I do this because it resembles the thought of the artist serenading these songs directly to me while I rest on their lap. The sound is perfectly muffled and far. As it might be swimming underwater and overhearing the faint. It is utterly delusional and amazing.
Club Lotus released their debut EP, Lifeline, at the bewitching hour; so, I commenced my usual doings and rested my head onto the pillow, with their album underneath it. The group released the holy trinity as their earliest album. Triad tenderhearted tunes: “Space,” “Lifeline,” and “sleep6502.”
On Vocals, Anna Siciliano leaves space for subtleness but in the absence of space, there is that voice. With the depth of Amy Winehouse, Siciliano truly has the talent to be reckoned with. The lyrics are scenic. With the band's pursuits on strings, keys, and drums, they stretch out your sore shoulders. They merely play. The lyrics remind me of Jeff Buckley’s; how it paints a picture even if it doesn’t rhyme or seem coherent. The truthfulness, I love.
I had a difficult time choosing a favorite track. If I were to pick under pressure, “sleep6502” would be the one for me. I must’ve played it five times in a row; with that addicting melody, it was worthy of even five more plays.
Unapologetically authentic New Yorkers doing what they love, and I cannot argue with that. I will assure you, that this won’t be the last time this band makes it under my pillow. I will happily wait for more music in the future.
Keep them on your radar; soon-to-be on the front cover of the Rolling Stone.
